Perplexity Passes 100 Million Monthly Users. What That Means for B2B Content Strategy

Perplexity's growth from niche AI research tool to a platform with 100 million monthly users has happened fast. B2B brands that haven't considered Perplexity citations are now missing a visible slice of their buyer funnel.

Perplexity launched in 2022 and positioned itself as an answer engine for researchers and developers. By March 2026, it has passed 100 million monthly active users, with notable growth in the enterprise tier, where teams use it for competitive intelligence, market research, and vendor evaluation.

This matters for B2B content teams for a specific reason: Perplexity doesn't rank pages, it synthesises them. A brand that doesn't appear in Perplexity's synthesised answers to buyer queries is invisible to that portion of the funnel, even if it ranks well on Google.

Perplexity's citation behaviour rewards content that is specific, well-structured, and published on domains with some external recognition. Brand-new domains with thin content don't get cited. For enterprise software vendors, this creates a content brief that differs from a traditional SEO brief. Instead of "write 1,500 words targeting this keyword", the brief is "write 800 words that fully answers this specific buyer question, in enough detail that an AI model would treat it as a primary source".
